Why communication can either save or kill your business.

If you are someone who isn't clear on what they can deliver yet, do the best you can by giving your clients an idea of what you're going to do and how long it will take. You also need to let your clients know what they need to do for you to meet the end of the deal. You likely need something from your client to get your job done, so make sure that it is communicated properly and all documents and information are in place. If something happens where you're not able to go through with your deadlines, it's your job to communicate that delay with your client. Don’t forget, your clients are humans too and if you've developed a good relationship with them, they will most likely understand. This will result in a MUCH better outcome versus not communicating and leaving your client frustrated. Then, you put yourself in a position to lose out on business.

The importance of outlining realistic expectations.

Always be sure to communicate what will happen next if something can’t get done. If it's going to take another 2 days, hop on a call and figure it out with the client. If you mess up, own that and explain a clear plan for the future. If you do have a hiccup, make sure that it doesn't happen again and the same mistake isn't repeated. Expectations are not just about what you're doing and who is doing it, it's about what's reasonable. Layout your expectations and be honest with the client so that you’re not giving a higher expectation that you can’t deliver! Be honest about potential worst-case scenarios that may pop up. When you’re doing this, make sure the client is clear on what’s realistic so that there are no letdowns. If you have good, open, honest, trusting, and outline clear expectations, it will be very hard for you to fail. Without communication and clear expectations, your business can fail but with them, your business can overcome almost any obstacle!

2 Things to Master in Your Client-Facing Business: The Bottomline

When you're hiring people, it's really important to make sure that these two things are happening and if not, always steer them towards happening. If you’ve implemented clear communication and expectation, but the client relationship is still struggling, then you may have to analyze the client you’re working with. When you make sure that you are delivering good communication and expectations, you will have a full-proof business!
